Summary: This study aims to investigate the benefits of extracorporeal shock wave treatment (ESWT) on nerve regeneration in finger injuries. Participants will be divided into two treatment groups and a sham group, and followed up in a double-blind study design.
Description: Extracorporeal shock wave treatment, a certified therapy in Europe, is commonly used for conditions like achillodynia, epicondylitis, and tendinitis calcanea. The Orthogold 100 device by MTS Medical UG will be used in this study.
ESWT, using low-energy shock waves, has shown positive effects in various medical applications. It stimulates the metabolic activity of different cell types, including osteoblasts, tenocytes, endothelial cells, and chondrocytes. It has proven effective in healing bones, wounds, and treating myocardial ischemia. However, no previous studies have explored the effects of ESWT on nerve regeneration in humans.
